About us
We built the site we
wished existed.
Finding an NHS dentist in the UK shouldn't require an afternoon of phone calls. DentistSearch exists to fix that — for patients and for practices.
What we do
DentistSearch tracks dental availability across the UK, combining daily NHS data with real reports from people who've actually picked up the phone. The result is a live, honest picture of which practices are genuinely accepting new patients right now — not just officially.
Search by postcode, filter by NHS or private, and set up a free alert so you're the first to know when your local practice opens up. No more refreshing the NHS website. No more wasted calls.
For dental practices, we offer free profile management so you can keep your own status accurate, update your contact details, and stop patients calling when you're not taking on new people. It takes about three minutes to claim your listing.
Why we do it
There are roughly 10 million people in England without a regular NHS dentist. That's not a statistic that stays abstract when it's your tooth that's aching.
The wasted call loop
We've heard from thousands of people who spend hours calling practice after practice — only to hear "we're not taking new patients." That time and stress is avoidable.
Data that's out of date
The NHS "find a dentist" tool is updated infrequently. A practice can change its accepting status and the official data won't reflect it for months.
Practices deserve better tools too
Dentists told us they get calls all day from people looking for NHS appointments they can't offer. Accurate listings mean fewer wasted calls for everyone.
Community fills the gaps
When someone calls a practice and finds the data is wrong, sharing that takes ten seconds and helps the next ten people who search. That collective effort is genuinely powerful.
Our charter
What we stand for
These are the commitments we make — to patients and to practices. They're not aspirations. They're the rules we build to.
For patients
Always free to search
You will never pay to find a dentist. Searching is free for everyone, forever.
Live data, honestly labelled
We pull NHS data every morning and show you exactly when it was last updated. We never pretend information is fresher than it is.
Your reports matter
If you've called a practice and found the NHS data is wrong, you can tell us. Three people saying the same thing updates the listing for everyone.
Alerts that respect your time
We send one email when a practice starts accepting — not a stream of marketing. You can stop watching any time.
No health data, ever
We only need your email address to send alerts. We don't store anything about why you're looking for a dentist.
For practices
Your listing, your control
Claim your free profile and update your accepting status, phone number, and hours any time — changes go live immediately.
Community reports are transparent
We show patient-reported data alongside NHS data and always label the source. We don't suppress reports, but you can flag anything you believe is inaccurate.
Verified practices are protected
Once you're verified, your own status updates take priority. NHS data takes 14 days before community votes can override a recent change you've made.
No surprise bills
Claiming and basic management of your listing is free. Enhanced features are clearly priced. We'll always be upfront about what costs what.
We're on your side
We exist to connect patients with practices — not to judge, rank, or rate. We don't write reviews and we don't let people compare your prices.
Where our data comes from
NHS API
Updated dailyWe pull the official NHS practice database every morning. This covers accepting status, addresses, and NHS registration details for every listed practice in England.
Community reports
Real-timeWhen someone calls a practice and finds the NHS data is out of date, they can submit a quick report. Three consistent reports from different people flips the status — no single person can game it.
Owner-verified updates
InstantWhen a practice claims their listing and updates their own status, that change is protected for 14 days (NHS) or 72 hours (private) before community votes can override it.
